Liverpool 4 - 1 Newcastle
For the first half hour, this was looking like another terrible game for Liverpool. By the time Gordon sliced through our defense and scored, it seemed as though we would be looking at multi-goal misery. Ekitike had other ideas, however. After Wirtz had woven nimbly through the defense, Ekitike popped it in the back of the net. He was not done, however. Shortly after, he made a great run and, rather than lay it onto a misfiring Salah, slid it away with a fantastic finish. Newcastle didn't give up, but LFC had the bit in their teeth and the crowd behind them and absorbed their pressure more easily, especially after Florian Wirtz had scored a third. Perhaps recognizing the precarity of even a two goal lead, LFC kept pushing and in the last gasps of the game, Ibou Konate - returning to the team early after the death of this father - scored a fourth, and his first with his feet. The pub erupted, Konate wept and Virgil gave him a hug, and all was good.

Liverpool 6 - 0 Qarabag
In the more open world of the Champions League, Liverpool were head and shoulders above the Azerbaijani side and had a fruitful outing, commanding the game from the beginning and not wavering or relenting. No one played poorly and Van Dijk managed a record three assists.
24th January 2026
Liverpool 2 - 3 Bournemouth
And back to the Premier League and the grim return to poor form. LFC were ponderous, uncertain, unable to capitalize on any chances while defensive failures allowed Bournemouth to grab a two goal lead. Liverpool did show more resilience and fight thereafter, gritting their teeth and forcing themselves back into the game with a Van Dijk header and a beautiful Szoboszlai long range shot. They continued to push, but so did the Cherries and deep into injury time, won a corner. Once again, LFC utterly failed to defend their goal, allowing a chaotic winner for the visitors. Anfield - and the pub - were not happy.
21st January 2026
Marseille 0 - 3 Liverpool
If anything demonstrates the difference between the PL and the Champions' League, it was this match. Marseille are currently in third in Ligue 1 - so no chumps - and in the first half, they went head to head with LFC in a refreshingly open match. It was a stunning free kick on the half time mark from Dominik Szoboszlai that broke the deadlock. Marseille did not resort to negative tactics, keeping up the pace and avoiding the kind of low-block, long kick, long throw tedium that has infected the Premier League, and had their chances to equalize. It was LFC that scored again, albeit with a little help from a Marseille defender, and could then play with more confidence and freedom than they have managed in a long while.
17 January 2026
Liverpool 1 - 1 Burnley
In what has become depressingly typical for Liverpool this season, LFC were slow and uncertain in the attack, and chaotic in defense. They dominated possession 73:27, and took 26 shots - 7 on target - but a mix of bad luck and bad judgement meant only a standout Wirtz managed to score, while yet another set piece disaster gave Burnley an equalizer. The only glimmer of light was just how good Wirtz is becoming now he is more used to the physicality and speed of the Premier League.
12 January 2026
Liverpool 4 - 1 Barnsley
With Slot fielding a relatively strong side for a cup match, Liverpool had to win and decisively against the League One side. Of course, Liverpool dominated possession, and after two beautiful early goals, they looked safe. Then a bizarre error from Szoboszlai allowed former LFC youth player Adam Phillips to score just before half time. Barnsley rallied, holding out hope, fighting for an equalizer for much of the second half before Wirtz' goal finally crushed them. Hugo got a final goal for a scoreline that flattered the hosts.
8 January 2026
Arsenal 0 - 0 Liverpool
League leaders Arsenal must have expected an easy win against a struggling Liverpool. Even some LFC fans feared a drubbing. Yet, after poor displays against mid and low table teams, LFC finally played better, especially in a second half when they allowed Arsenal no good chances. Liverpool had few chances themselves: missing both Isak and Ekitike, they had to rely upon Szoboszlai for most of their shots - not of which were classed as "on target". Yet the defense was far more solid and they kept a clean sheet. In the circumstances, while not a pretty match (or a good tempered one), a draw was a decent result.
4 January 2026
Fulham 2 - 2 Liverpool
Another tactical, disappointing showing by Liverpool seemed destined to be another dull draw. As with Leeds, Liverpool controlled possession, but it was Fulham that first struck, former-Red Harry Wilson scoring in the 19th minute against the run of play. Liverpool plugged away, until - after numerous fruitless corners - Wirtz evened the scores on the hour. For the rest of regular time, it was much the same, both sides trying to find the winner with nothing to show for it. It did not prepare us for the chaotic ending. As the minutes ticked down, Gakpo scored off a Frimpong assist and it seemed as though we would snatch an important win. In the 7th and final minute of extra time, Fulham's Harrison Reed scored a worldie Ali couldn't touch. It was a cruel end, but one we probably deserved.
1 January 2026
Liverpool 0 - 0 Leeds
On a bitterly cold night under the Anfield lights, Liverpool had the chance to begin the year right. Unfortunately, while they could get and mostly retain possession - the defense is definitely looking better - they were too slow, too hesitant, far too cautious for a Leeds low block. Deliberate is one thing but attempting to find the perfect shot while keeping possession just meant no real attempts on goal, no sense of urgency. It was grinding stuff, not good enough at all. Still, once we thawed out some, at least those Pasadena Reds in attendence had something to talk about.
27 December 2025
Liverpool 2 - 1 Wolves
Coming into this match, Wolves were languishing at the very bottom of the premier league table, ready to challenge Derby for the dubious title of "worst team in Premier League history". In the first half, it was LFC that pressed Wolves strongly, with the visitors holding out for 41 minutes before a short burst of clinical finishing saw first Gravenberch then Flo get goals - for Flo his first in the Premier League - which put LFC in the driving seat at the break. Wolves however were not ready to give up. They came out for the second half determined to avoid a drubbing and were increasingly able to disrupt LFC's flow, enough that they scored a goal in the 51st minute to - once again - a poorly defended corner. Wolves then tried hard to grab an equalizer, but while Liverpool looked a little tense, they managed to hold on.
20 December 2025
Tottenham 1 - 2 Liverpool
Apparently, Tottenham went into this game thinking they were playing rugby, or maybe MMA, or perhaps had decided the phrase "hard-fought game" was literal. Both teams were ambitious from the off, piling on pressure, until a hard foul from Xavi Simons on Van Dyke saw him given his marching papers. To their credit, Spurs managed to absorb the extra pressure, seeing out the half. LFC came out in the second determined to take advantage and in the 56th minute, Alexander Isak broke the deadlock from a brilliant Florian Wirtz assist, while Micky Van de Ven broke Isak's fibula with a reckless lunging (and unpunished) tackle. It's never simple is it? Ekitike seemed to secure the game ten minutes later, but Spurs were not done. They kept pressing and kept with the dubious heavy play. Total **** Richarlison even scored one back in the 86th minute, but as with many of his goals against Liverpool, it was pointless, as Spurs' lack of discipline meant Romero picked up his second yellow shortly thereafter and LFC could hold on to take the game. It was far too tight, given we were playing 9 men, but we'll take it.
13 December 2025
Liverpool 2 - 0 Brighton
LFC had an excellent first half against a Brighton team that can always be a threat. After Ekitike's goal in essentially the first attack of the game, they pressed and moved more convincingly than in a while. Mo, who had been making waves off the pitch rather than on, was allowed to leave the naughty step after Gomez was injured in the 26th minute, and was more involved, providing the assist to Ekitike for the 2nd goal in the 60th minute. Brighton had some chances, especially in a more even second half, but could not convert. LFC's defense, while still unconvincing, held. Sorry, Gary.

Galatasaray 1 - 0 Liverpool
After a tough game against Palace, Slot changed the team sheet, leaving out Salah from the starting lineup for Frimpong and starting Szobo at right back. In the incredible noise of the Galatasaray stadium, the hosts played an intense game, bullying the visitors, who could not seem to gel. Our defense was far too porous, with Konate once again just not good enough, and our attack misfired. Many were just anonymous. Alisson had some good saves, but then went off injured. LFC had some chances including one from Gakpo just before Szobo conceded a penalty that Osimhen put away. That was the decider in a game LFC will be glad to have behind it, in a disappointing week to forget.
27 September 2025
Crystal Palace 2 - 1 Liverpool
To many watching, this loss felt like it had been coming. LFC have won games despite not playing well at all, snatching last minute victories against the odds. Here, Crystal Palace ran harder, pressed more intently, took their chance. LFC were utterly woeful in the first half, especially Konate and a rusty Bradley. Isak stood at the front apparently waiting for a cross that never came. Apart from one free Gravenberch attempt that Henderson punted away, we had nothing. Crystal Palace caught us napping at a corner and we moved into the second half behind for the first time in the season. They were marginally better in the second half, forcing multiple saves from a very good Henderson. Crystal Palace proved less of a handful and by the 80th minute LFC were pushing for an equalizer. Chiesa finally snatched it in the 87th, despite Mo Salah almost getting it ruled out for hand ball, and kept pressing for a winner. After another awful display from the referee Chris Kavanagh, he capped it with letting the game continue past extra time, allowing a final Palace set piece, another sloppy LFC response, a goal, and LFC's first loss of the regular season.
23 September 2025
Liverpool 2 - 1 Southampton
Despite Southampton having been relegated to the Championship, this was never likely to be an easy win. Slot decided to rest many of his first-choice players - playing a mix of youth and some squad players who needed more game time. Some did well. Leoni appeared very promising from the start until his terrible injury, for instance, and Isak grabbed his first goal for LFC. Others, unfortunately, were not so good. Gomez looked rusty as did Endo, and while Liverpool were the stronger side, there were rather more wayward passes and lapses than we might like, allowing Southampton to equalize. Perhaps surprisingly, Chiesa was the bright point in the team, working hard, showing creativity and providing the assists for both Isak and, in the second half, for Ekitike, who rather than thank him, wheeled away, taking his shirt off and getting a second yellow and a sending off for his hubris. LFC held out with 10 men to the end, avoiding penalties, but at what cost?
20 September 2025
Liverpool 2 - 1 Everton
The "Friendly Derby" has not been friendly in some time, and this match was no exception, with Tarkowski and Grealish in particular playing stupid games in an attempt to rile up LFC players. Despite this, LFC played a great first half, especially the first 30 minutes, with two well taken goals. Everything seemed to be clicking and Everton barely had a chance. But the 2-0 scoreline - and more likely, the just 62 hours between the Atletico match and this once - began to show in the second half as Everton pushed back and Jack Grealish flopped over so many times you might think the referee would ask if he was alright. Instead, he gave free kick after free kick, and while LFC absorbed most of the pressure, a slip allowed in Gueye on the hour. From that point on, LFC gritted their teeth and clung on, looking increasingly tired but holding out.
17 September 2025
Liverpool 3 - 2 Atletico Madrid
LFC took on Atletico Madrid in the first Champions' League under the lights of Anfield and started strong. Although it was a first start for Isak, it was Robbo who scored first, his "Puskas winner" bouncing in off his hip, followed less than two minutes later by a neat goal from Mo. Unfortunately for the LFC, 2-0 seems to be the worst lead for them to defend and Atletico pushed back strong. While their first goal was dubious, there was still no excuse and when LFC let in yet another, we looked set for a draw. However our lads don't give up, Van Dijk heading in from a Szoboszlai pass as the minutes of extra time ticked past. Simeone went nuts, getting himself a red card, but LFC fans just breathed a sigh of relief. We'll run out of that last minute luck at some point, but not today.
14 September 2005
Burnley 0 - 1 Liverpool
Burnley might have only just returned to the Premiership but Turf Moor has never been a happy place to visit with Burnley consistently parking the bus and working for a draw or even to snatch a lucky win. This was their tactic once again, and they were disciplined about it, frustrating LFC at every step. Burnley barely bothered to attack, while LFC put on the pressure, including shots from Szoboszlai and Chiesa. As it appeared LFC would have to settle for a grinding draw, Burnley's Hannibal conceded a penalty and Salah efficiently slotted it away. It wasn't a pretty match but Liverpool will have to deal with similar tactics again this season and find better ways to break down such resistance.
31 August 2025
Liverpool 1 - 0 Arsenal
What a day. LFC were back at Anfield, with the first of the "Big 6" matches of the season against a hopeful and determined Arsenal. It was a tight, cagey match with the visitors seeming the stronger of the two sides in the first half. Still, a considerably better LFC defense stood firm and as the second half progressed, Liverpool seemed to get stronger and the more likely to get the vital goal as Arsenal seemed intent on defending their way either to a quick counterpunch goal or even a draw. They were probably not too worried about the Szoboszlai free kick. It was so far out - 32 yards - so straight on, and Raya had been so good that day. And Dominik thundered in a stunning, world-class goal to Anfield ecstasy. Arsenal tried their very hardest to get a goal back, but LFC kept their composure, seeing out the game and confirming an important win to enter the Stupid International Break on top of the table.
25 August 2025
Newcastle United 2 - 3 Liverpool
St James is never an easy ground to visit, especially so early in the season, but Alexander Isak's stubborn insistence in leaving Newcastle and joining LFC made the match especially fraught. Newcastle are a physical side and the referee obviously decided their "tackles" were OK, making for a fast and furious first half - with Gravenberch snatching a single goal - at least until Anthony Gordon crashed dangerously into Virgil and VAR upgraded his yellow to a red. When Ekitike scored a quick goal as the second half began, and NU down to 10 men, it seemed to be over, but Newcastle had other ideas, fighting back (and even playing some football) to equalize, aided by some very dubious defending and general timidity from Liverpool. Slot did not panic. He sent on our sixteen year old starlet out, telling him to make an impact. Oh and he did, shooting a rocket into the back of the net in the 10th minute of extra time. Perhaps a cruel defeat for Newcastle, but we didn't much care.
15 August 2025
Liverpool 4 - 2 Bournemouth
This was never likely to be a run-of-the-mill Premier League opener. Not only was it on a balmy Anfield Friday evening, but it was the first competitive outing at Anfield during which LFC would honor Diogo Jota and his brother. Bournemouth was not to be cowed and both teams began brightly and energetically, with the action going end to end. Ekitike - in an excellent Premier League debut - broke the deadlock with a solo effort, and the LFC forwards drew more than a few good saves from the Bournemouth keeper. A Gakpo goal - and Ekitike assist - early in the second half might have made it seem a done deal, but Bournemouth never gave up and our attacks too often gave our opponents far too much space and a counter. Some strange substituions and Two Antoine Semenyo goals later and LFC were facing a draw. But this was not the day for giving up: Chiesa - another substitute - finally snatched his first PL goal to mass hysteria - at Anfield and in a packed pub - while a Mo goal in stoppage time made for an emotional coda (and yet more elation at Lucky's). There were some things for Slot to fix, but a good start to our PL campaign.
10 August 2025
Liverpool 2 - 2 Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace win 3-2 on penalties
Was this a last pre-season friendly, or a real trophy? Somewhere in between, perhaps. Either way, it was a trip to Wembley and another chance for LFC to get up to speed and gel before the start of the Premier League season next Friday. And while LFC showed some beautiful moves at times - especially the move for the first goal - they were still disjointed and not quite there yet. This was most apparent in the second half when LFC sat back and invited Palace's attack, which Palace's tricky forwards were eager to provide. An atypical mistake from Van Dijk led to Palace's equalizer, and while LFC pushed to attack with renewed intent, it was not enough. The less said about the penalty shoot out the better. Three very poor attempts from Mo, Macca and Harvey Elliot meant even a Becker save was not enough. The Palace fans were ecstatic, but at the pub we shrugged our shoulders and move on. The important test begins Friday.
